POLLUTION FREE MOTORING – FANTASY OR REAL POSSIBILITY?

This is the title of a fringe event discussion that the UK Petroleum Industry Association will be promoting at the Labour Party Conference, Bournemouth on Tuesday 30th September, to debate the challenging issues about low pollution fuels to power future generations of motor cars.

Speaking at the lunchtime event will be:

David Jamieson
Transport Minister

Malcolm Fergusson
Institute for European Environmental Policy

David Wallis
Director, Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership

Malcolm Webb
Director General, UKPIA

Announcing the fringe discussion, Malcolm Webb commented: “ We hope our event will help stimulate more debate about how we power our cars in the future but the overall message is a positive one. The immediate challenges of removing the main exhaust pollutants are being met by new fuels combined with new engine and exhaust technologies. The next major challenge is reducing the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by cars. Enormous progress is being made, for example with hybrid petrol/electric cars, which gives me the confidence to say that over the next 15 years we can we can greatly lessen the impact of using cars but perhaps not totally eliminate pollution”.

The event is taking place at the Trouville Hotel, Priory Road, Bournemouth at 12.45pm on Tuesday 30th September.
