19th September 2003 KEN RIVERS APPOINTED PRESIDENT OF UKPIA Ken Rivers, Manufacturing Director of Shell UK Oil Products, has been appointed President of the UK Petroleum Industry Association, the trade association representing the main oil refiners and marketers in the UK. He succeeds Gary Jones, Managing Director of Total UK, who will be taking up a new overseas post within the Total group. A chemical engineer by training and a graduate of Cambridge University, Ken has worked in a number of senior management positions within Shell, including the UK, the Netherlands and the Far East. Commenting on his appointment, Ken said “I look forward to building upon the excellent work that UKPIA has been doing under Gary Jones’s Presidency. There is, however, no shortage of challenges. The industry as a whole faces a major one in meeting new fuel specifications at a time when financial returns in the downstream sector are still barely adequate. However, the work which the industry is doing to facilitate the introduction of sulphur-free fuels is testament to our determination to continue to improve air quality.” A Yorkshireman and proud of it, Ken is married with two teenage daughters. His interests include music, travel, horse riding and being an avid supporter of Leeds United, as well as playing football when time permits. |
